Nature of the beast

I just finished chapt 15 last night. I think I've figured out the issue for me: This is a MEMOIR. It's not a story. I keep expecting "the story" to start and there isn't going to be one. This is a collection of little vignettes, moments, thoughts, discoveries. There is no story in the traditional sense of point A to point B. Maybe if I (we?) adjust our expectations accordingly, it will be easier to read. Tough after reading Three Cups of Tea which so totally WAS a story. I enjoyed a lot of what I read last night. Not sure where you are so won't scribble here (yet). Gatsby is one of the only books on the recommended reading list that I have read and IS the only one I have read more than once.
