Nothing for months and now this blog is post-central. Re: this post ... about it being a "teen book"... Funny thing about that is that it was originally recommend to me by my friend Marie who is a teacher of English Literature (and roughly our age). The txt exchange went something like this:
Marie to Carole: Are you reading Twilight?
Carole to Marie: No. Why? Should I be?
Marie to Carole: Yes! It's addictive and trashy!
Shortly after that exchange, my friend Renee, mother of two small boys, also asked me if I was reading it. I told her I was not, but that someone else had recommended it. She said something like.... "You have to go into it understanding that it's written from a teenage girl's perspective, but once you do... it's really good."
Needless to say, based on these two referrals, I ran right out and got it (or rather, grabbed my Kindle and downloaded).
You're at a great point... during the baseball game!! From here on out it's crazy non-stop action. You will probably finish it next time you sit down to read. You will HAVE TO!!
I could not agree with you more that the teenage girl perspective is totally relate-able! Bella is a great character. And the romance/sexual tension between her and Edward is SO WELL DONE!! I AM IN LOVE WITH EDWARD!!! And I'm not afraid for anyone to know it. I defy any woman to read this book and NOT fall in love with Edward.
What's wild about this is that I sent an email to Marie when I was about at the point where you are now and her teenage SON responded to me --telling me how addicted he was to the books. So I don't think it's gender-specific. He's a freshman I think; football player - smart, smart, smart kid. He said, "I don't know why, but this book does strange things to you" ... "Eventually the book just kind of bends your will to it, and you have no choice but to read it no matter what."
Can't WAIT for you to finish so we can have a debrief and move on to the next one! : )
